Valley Center Women's Club
PO Box 2011, Valley Center, CA
(760)751-0419

Considering that the Valley Center Women's Club only has 25 members, it generates a degree of energy all out of proportion to those modest numbers.

Its focus is on education and literacy. Now in its 11th year, the club recently earned 11 state awards. It got a performing arts award for its yearly sponsorship of the Miss Valley Center Pageant. It earned first place awards in fund-raising, literature, its leadership role in the community, membership, public relations, crime prevention and fighting substance abuse through support of programs like the EYE (Escondido Youth Encounter).

This year's officers are:

  • President: Jan Imonti
  • Vice President: Dianna Greene
  • Secretary: Lynn Watts
  • Treasurer: Marjorie Talmadge

Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month, 6 p.m. at VC Community Hall. Dinner is at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. The club is part of the Palomar District, which has 14 chapters, and part of the California Federation of Women's Clubs, which is under the national Federated Women's Clubs.

One of the main things the club does is fund- to earn money for the four scholarships it gives to high school seniors and to women in continuing education. It also raises money with rummage sales, the annual win-a-Christmas-tree drawing at Bates and the wine and cheese tasting event, which is part of the Art & Jazz Matazz in May. Wines are provided by local wineries, and beers by two micro-breweries.

The club also serves the community through sponsorship of annual events such as the Easter Egg Hunt and the Miss Valley Center Pageant in February. According to member Rene Meyst, "We think it's a great thing for the development of young women.

For the past several years the club has entered candidates in the Honorary Mayor's race, including Tamara Damante, Rene Meyst, Jean Moran, and Georginne Thomas.
