Valley Center High School Foundation
Valley Center High School Foundation (formerly VCHS Boosters Club) provides accounting, auditing and financial fund-raising programs for the various clubs and organizations at the high school.
It accomplishes this through several fund-raising events, like the tile paver project, where patrons buy tiles which are placed in their name; the SCRIP and ESCRIP programs; and the annual auction, which this past April raised $45,000. It also solicits donations from corporations and private individuals.
The foundation maintains an endowment found, a longterm savings account funded by 10% of all fund-raising activities of the 36 clubs that form the organization. All club members are automatically members of the foundation.
When the endowment fund is fully funded (the goal is around $5 million) the interest will be used to provide cash flow of $270,000 annually to the school. The fund, being new, is only up to $45,000. The foundation is registered as a 403 (C) education benefit corporation (that means you can make tax-deductible donations to it).
This year’s officers are Tom McAndrews, president; Tirso Ruiz, vice-president; Kaye Atkins, secretary; Mary Bradley, treasurer; Ken Clark, Sergeant-at-Arms; Dan Thornton, public relations, Julie Stroh, development director.
According to McAndrews, the motto of the foundation is CPR (communication, participation and resource management). McAndrews has spoken to many local organizations in the last few months explaining the restructuring that the foundation has done over the last year.
The annual meeting occurs every May. At that time officers are elected for the following year. The rest of the year the foundation meets on the second Monday of the month, 6 p.m. at the VCHS administration conference room.
