Valley Center Senior Associates
PO Box 1031, Valley Center, CA
(760)749-1449
"Our purpose is entertainment," says Mary Case, who has been the treasurer of the Valley Center Senior Associates since the club began in 1981. After all these years, she says, the Senior Associates members seem like family. The club provides a venue for entertainment, but also fellowship and education for its more than 200 members.
This year's officers are
- President: Kenneth Botts
- 1st Vice President: Emily Cunningham
- 2nd Vice President: June Ramaer
- 3rd Vice President: Bett Bever
- Secretary: Evelyn Ellis
- Corresponding Secretary: Marion Zombalas
- Treasurer: Mary Case
- Parliamentarian: Chuck Walsh
- Past President: Allafair Manista
The club started in 1981 at the home of the late Mary Phillips. Vernice Putnam was the first president.
The Senior Associates meet twice a month, on the first Friday at Hideaway Lake Clubhouse, and on the third Friday at VC Community Hall, from 10 a.m - noon.
During the get-together refreshments are served, each time provided by different members. Once in a while the group has a potluck. Each meeting they have a program. That program often consists of organists, singers, magicians, speakers on health or anything else of interest to seniors.
Winnie McCluskey is the chief of the Itchiefoot tribe, which travels all over to locations near and far. Mrs. McCluskey plans the trips that take Associates members to places like New York, Washington D.C. , Branson, Missouri, or, closer to home, to Monterrey or the Sacramento River network. They also go on day trips and to Palm Springs every time the Fabulous Follies changes its program.
Membership is open to anyone 55 and over. Membership is $10 a year per person.
Mrs. Case said the club needs more members, especially couples. "We'd like to build the membership up. We'd love to have you attend the meetings. If you have anything you want to have on a program, if you are entertainers and want to entertain us, call us. We are always looking for programs."
