San Diego County Genealogical Society
The San Diego County Genealogical Society helps others get started on the right track in tracing their family history.
The group was formed in 1976 in Oceanside and transferred to Ramona in 1987. It has between 60-70 members and meets the third Wednesday of the month, 7:30pm at the Ramona Library community room. Meetings are open to the public.
This year's officers are: President Jacqueline Beck; Vice President George Boggs; Secretary Lucille Griffin; Treasurer Donna Kottom; and, Registrar Ann DiPietro.
The group has guest speakers from time to time, including people who specialize in church records, military records, or records of German ancestors, or who talk about how to do the family book on the computer.
Mrs. Beck points out that many people think the computer is the only way to research family records. The reality is that much informatin available on the Internet must be backed up by actual records. "We know where to look for such things," she says.
Most folks join the Society to learn about the own families, how to record the information, and where to locate facts. "A lot of people come in and they don't even know their granparents' names. They need help getting started," says Mrs. Beck.
Once they start digging, many get hooked on this facinating hobby. "It's comething that you're doing for yourself, your family, and for generations to come," she says.
