The Ramona Parks and Recreation Association is the non-profit group that administers
Ramona's parks for the Ramona Municipal Water District. The RPRA took over maintenance of the parks in a landmark agreement with the
water district in July of 1994.
The goal of the organization is to continue the development of the Ramona Community
Park and to provide a variety of programs and activities in the park that will "foster the
development of young citizens, build the character of the local youth and enrich the lives of our
senior citizens and all local residents."
The association consists of several organizations and groups that use the park. These
include: Ramona Soccer League, Ramona Pony Baseball, Ramona Pop Warner, Ramona Adult
Softball, Ramona Girls Softball, Ramona Junior Fair, Ramona Outdoor Community Center,
Ramona Senior Citizens and Ramona Trails Association.
These organizations over the years have helped develop the park until it is now the
most used recreational area in the community. It is the home of the annual Rodeo, the
Ramona Fair, the senior citizens program, which serves meals daily to over 160 seniors. The
children's soccer team attracts over 600 players on 43 teams and the Adult Softball League
has over 500 players in 40 teams.
Soon the park will be getting PLDO (Park Lands Development Ordinance) funds from
the County of San Diego. Such funds can be used to develop more facilities on the property.
You can help these activities by joining Friends of the Park. Membership levels range
from member ($15) to benefactor ($1000). Write to RPRA, P.O. Box 621, Ramona, California
