The Ramona Rotary Club is probably the oldest service club in town, having been founded in 1937, just 32 years after Rotary International itself was formed.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional people bound by a common philosophy. Rotarians worldwide try to live by these four precepts, called the 4-Way Test: 1. Is it the Truth? 2. Is it Fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
President Carol Fowler reports that the Ramona club's 60 or so members meet every at noon at the Sizzler.
When the club first started it met in the Town Hall and later moved to the Women's Club. It's been at the Sizzler since that restaurant opened in the 1980s.
Ramona Rotary is an active club that gives out four $2000 scholarships to graduating seniors each year, and for the past eight years has raised funds to sponsor the July 4 fireworks show.
It puts on a spaghetti dinner in April at Olive Peirce Performing Arts Center to benefit a safe and sober grad night.
The Rotary Foundation donates money to the Boys & Girls Club, and to its "adopted" school: Montecito High School. The money is also used to support Rotary Youth Leadership camp.
Rotary, says President Garcia "is a great fellowship opportunity to meet with people in the community with the same goal in mind, to do good work in Ramona.
