Ramona Garden Club

The Ramona Garden Club started in 2003 with a mission to promote and enjoy the knowledge of gardens and horticulture and to preserve Ramona’s plants and wildlife. The club’s 40 members meet the second Wednesday of each month at noon in the Ramona Library’s Community Room.

A member of the Palomar District Garden Club, the Ramona Garden Club’s Board of Directors includes Patricia Frederick, President; Ramona Valencia, Vice President; Debbie Gomez, Treasurer; and Teri Schmidt, Secretary.

“The Ramona Garden Club is both educational and social”, says Vice President Ramona Valencia, “We have a lot of fun. We bring speakers to every meeting to inform, educate and enlighten.”

The club also does field trips to nurseries, sells plant bulbs, and has a greatly anticipated progressive garden brunch party in June. A current project of the Ramona Garden Club is maintaining the herb garden at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Past projects have included helping with the senior center garden and doing roadside pick up of trash on Hanson Lane.

One of the club’s biggest events is in April when club members engage in the planting of trees in celebration of Arbor Day. On an ongoing basis, a service performed by the Ramona Garden Club that is found most valuable by new residents is assistance in selecting and caring for the right kinds of plants for Ramona gardens and landscaping. The club also offers expertise and assistance to people interested in certifying their yards as backyard wildlife habitats.

The club, which is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, raises money through yard sales and bulb sales, Membership runs the gamut from several master gardeners, landscape designers and an arborist, to people who know nothing at all about gardening, but want to!

Currently the club is open only to adults. Dues are $15.
