Junior Rodeo Queen -- Rachelle Pyeatt
Rachelle Pyeatt is a 14-year old freshman at Mountain Valley Academy High School, a home schooling program. She has been active in 4-H where she raised swine and sheep. Rachelle’s ewe project won grand champion at the 2002 Ramona Fair.
Besides riding, singing is one of Rachelle’s favorite hobbies. She sang the National Anthem at the 2002 Ramona Rodeo. She enjoys all kinds of music including opera. She also likes to dance and is currently taking salsa dancing lessons.
Rachelle is a member of the Sunbar Roping Club as well as being involved with ACTRA American
Cowboy Team Roping Association) roping, an association where cowboys and cowgirls compete against each other throughout the U.S.
Rachelle has been riding since she could first get up on her own. She has five horses, including one thoroughbred, and four quarter horses. She rides them all. She uses the thoroughbred for English riding and the quarter horses for barrel racing and team roping.
The rodeo queen competition was “…an awesome experience,” Rachelle says. “I got a chance to run against my best friend and we had so much fun studying and riding together. Knowing that your best friend is doing it with you is so much
fun. We really learned a lot from the pageant and from each other.”
And what is one of the lessons learned? According to Rachelle, “Never get flustered with each other or with your horse. If you get flustered when your
horse is not doing what you want, nothing will work out the way you want it to.”
Rachelle has done several community service projects. She has been a volunteer for the Ramona Rodeo for several years. She has worked at benefit team roping and barrel racing events to raise money for people in need. She’s mentored tudents at Ramona Community School and helped with Ramona Junior Fair and demonstrated dummy roping at community events.
Rachelle’s parents are Lester & Jeanne Pyeatt. Her family has been around horses and rodeo for a very long time. Her dad was a bull rider and she grew up with it.
“Running for rodeo queen has given me a chance to give back to the community that has given so much to my family,” she says. Rachelle’s favorite class is Algebra. She’s not sure yet what college she would like to attend, but she knows that she wants to major in speech and communications, with the goal of becoming a broadcaster.
