Borrego Springs Booster Club
The Booster club is a dedicated, small but mighty group of volunteers who give their time and talents to raise money for youth activities in Borrego Springs.
According to Boosters Pres. Rick Rethoret the focus is high school sports in general, “but we do anything associated with kids, from youth basketball to ice cream socials at the elementary school and all points in between. They have been providing this service for ten years.
Rethoret figures that the Boosters serve about 300 youths in the community, i.e., most of the student population who live here. “We stick to funding,” says the president.
To accomplish this they put on an annual golf tournament, usually at Ram’s Hill Country Club. About 45-50 players participate and in the process raise from $10,000-$15,000. It gets no government funding and is not a tax-deductible organization.
They don’t provide 100% funding for any group, but rather augments their efforts. Such as providing uniform replacement for all of the local sports teams.
The Boosters also put on an annual boys and girls basketball tournament.
This year’s officers are Rick Rethoret, president; Anna Navarro, treasurer; Julie Dunn, secretary; and Steve Dunn, member. They are always in search of new officers.
They meet on the first Tuesday of the month, 7 p.m. except during the summer, at the Rethoret residence. That meeting schedule is subject to change, depending on the sports schedule! If you’d like to attend, just call for directions.
